Traveling overland throughout Myanmar is a glorious experience. The clichés of “stepping back in time” or witnessing a “medieval era of yesteryear” certainly apply in rural and remote areas. Accessing low lying remote villages, the mountain dwelling hill tribes and being immersed in the famed jungles of Burma can also be a challenge.
Ideally with a four wheel drive, a local translator, an abundance of time & patience, and your remote journeys by road, are certainly possible. However, the safest and easiest means of access is by river.
